Living with Grief

Living with Grief provides a guide to how to live when others have died.

I wrote this book to help you; the reader gain insight into some of the processes that might be happening when things feel overwhelming. You can dip in and out reading a bit as and when you feel like. There is good signposting to guidance on all the questions posed at the beginning of each chapter. The chapters themselves are short and manageable.

The book provides strategies to offer understanding and compassion to gently encourage you to think about what is going on for you in your grief. It includes coverage about the social context in which you live and the role of social media and how that can play into competitive and performative aspects of grief.

I wanted to find a way to share some of the powerful lessons I have learned from hundreds of bereaved clients over the years I have been doing this work. For me there is nothing more important than working ethically and respecting confidentiality so I set to work creating an imaginary cast of diverse and inclusive characters.

Living With Grief by Sara Matthews - Book Cover

They are each going through grief themselves in various different circumstances to reflect modern culture and the issues people face. We get to meet them when they are at the beginning of their grief and again a couple of years later to find out what they have learned that might also help you.

The book acts as a compassionate companion for those figuring out how to live with grief. It is also valuable reading for counsellors and therapists, mental health professionals and other health and social care professionals. I really hope it helps whoever reads it and whatever standpoint you read it from.
